I had been wanting to clean out all of my "main-stream" cosmetics, bath products, and body products for ages, but kept putting it off thinking I'd never really be able to find replacements that I loved just as much. Then, in a half wondering if I would actually go through with it, I asked a naturally minded friend of companies she liked and trusted and she recommended Rocky Mountain Soap Company.
I have to admit, at first I was still a little unsure if I'd take the plunge, but I decided to check out one of the recommended readings on Rocky Mountain - Ecoholic, By Adria Vasil. and it has completely changed how I look at things. I cannot go shopping anymore without Adria Vasil's voice in my head, and I am SO grateful for that!
The first to go was all my lotions, which when I looked closer were loaded with sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and a whole bunch of nasty chemicals that I could not even pronounce...(one of my lotions even had the chemical compound that is anti-freeze in it.) It's so scary to me that there are companies out there that really are just interested in making a buck no matter what the physical cost is to the consumer. It also makes me wonder about all these problems we are seeing as a society today and unless people start speaking up about it, and demanding companies to only use natural and chemical free ingredients will only continue to get worse.
On to the review! First up - the deodorant! I have to admit, I was very skeptical about this deodorant because I have tried natural deodorants in the past and they just flat out didn't work, and either left me feeling wet and slippery, or smelling like I made out with a pine tree all day... a pine tree with BO at that.
The Forest Fresh I did really like. It goes on a little wet but dries quickly and definitely works all day. My only mistake with this one was that I got hubby to try it out for "man sized" smellyness and he loved it... and I've unfortunately lost this stick to him. Hehe!
Luckily, I did get two sticks so I still have my lovely Blossom Fresh. Being a person that can tend to be "aromatically challenged" I have to say, that I loved this deodorant and it definitely works great! Also, goes on a little wet but dries super quick and is crystal clear!! That's probably because it's made with natural liquid crystals!
And check out the ingredients! Water, potassium alum (deodorant crystal), glycerin, lonicera japonica (Japanese honeysuckle) extract, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate (olive lipids), sclerotium rolfsii (vegetable gum) with essential oils of lavandula angustifolia (lavender), citrus bergamia (bergamot), pelargonium graveolens (geranium) and aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf extract.
Next up... I could not wait to try out the Soft Warm Evening Trio, which was actually a gift from the website with one of their frequent promotional offers! This includes a Field & Stream Body Butter, Field & Stream Soap, and Lavender Bath Salts. Oh. My. God. This stuff is a lavender heaven!! And I have to say I enjoy it even more knowing that it doesn't have any cancer causing agents or chemicals that may affect my fertility, or cause yeast infections. Something about knowing you're not marinating in chemicals make the bath a little more luxurious!
My all time favorite product from the trio (and from my whole order to be honest) is the Field & Stream Body Butter. I have normal to dry skin in the summer, and really dry skin in the winter so it's hard to find a body butter that I love that is chemical free. This stuff is great because it's solid like a deodorant (because it's made from a beeswax base) which also means it's approved for airline travel, and it glides on so smoothly! Just a tiny bit locks in moisture all day without that greasy feel. Another fave about this product is the ingredients list. Are you ready for this??
Vegetable oil, Alberta beeswax and cocoa butter (theobroma cacao), with lavender essential oil (lavandula angustifolium). That's it. No fan fair. No fuss. Just the pure emolients that mother nature created.
Okay, I lied... there's a tie for my favorite product from the whole order. The Jasmine Natural Perfume is to die for! I love this not only because it's a beautifully sensual floral scent in a convenient roll-on bottle, that is thin enough to toss in your purse, but also because I can finally wear perfume again! I loved fragrances! Loved them until I learned that the word "fragrance" on ingredient lists are basically a way of saying "lots of really bad chemicals that we really don't want to tell you about and technically don't have to because this stuff isn't regulated". Hubby is severely allergic to them and I just cannot wear them around him without sending him into a coughing and hacking fit. Being that this is made with 100% natural ingredients, mostly essential oils he not only isn't allergic to it but actually likes how it smells on me. Score!
